Tree Planting at St. Mary's

On Tuesday 6th November, Revd.  David Wilmot, our Church Wardens, the Little Pips Leaders, Mums and Children took part in planting a Ribston Pippin Apple Tree in the grounds of the church. A short prayer was said, and the Vicar blessed the tree.

This tree was planted to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year.  An apple tree was chosen to signify that the church is the Parish Church of St. Mary’s, Applethwaite.  Little Pips Mothers and Toddlers Group are so called because apples grow from pips!

The tree was donated by “Fruity Windermere” a Community Food Group whose aim is the encouragement of fruit growing in the Parish of Windermere, Bowness and Troutbeck Bridge.

As the children get older they will see the tree grow along with them. They will be able to tell their children, and future generations that they helped to plant the tree at St. Mary’s.
